IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) skin rejuvenation, also known as photofacial, utilizes short, quick pulses of broad-spectrum light wavelengths to produce a more even skin tone and reduce the signs of aging. IPL skin rejuvenation treatment involves:

  • A quick and relatively painless procedure
  • Multiple treatment sites
  • Long-lasting results
  • Non-surgical and non-invasive

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

Patients who are concerned with age spots, blemishes, fine lines, freckles, hyperpigmentation, mild skin sagging or wrinkles, rosacea, skin texture issues, spider veins, or sun damage may benefit from IPL treatment. A consultation is needed to analyze your skin concerns and determine if this treatment is right for your skin type.

What Is the Treatment Process?

The intense light wavelengths target pigment cells, such as those that cause red and brown spots, which absorb the light and are destroyed. New collagen production is also encouraged by the treatment. This procedure is non-ablative, meaning that no skin is removed. More than one session may be necessary to achieve your ideal results.

Is the Treatment Painful?

Topical gels or pain medication may be used prior to treatment to ensure your comfort. Most patients describe their treatment as feeling hot without severe discomfort.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

The face, neck and chest are the most commonly targeted areas, but treatment can include nearly any area of the body. The size of the treatment site will determine how long your session takes and the cost of your procedure.

How Long Is the Downtime?

Your skin may appear red and feel irritated immediately after treatment, similar to a sunburn. Depending on your skin type and the areas treated, it can take between one day and four weeks to heal.

Are There Side Effects?

Some patients experience red or pink irritated and flaky skin. Minor blistering and scabbing can occur and take up to four weeks to heal completely. Your skin may feel slightly irritated and sensitive to the sun, and using sun protection is advised. Avoiding sun exposure may be recommended for the first week.

What to Expect After IPL Photofacial Treatment

The skin should improve as it heals and become smoother and more even. Mild skin tightening may occur. Adopting a regular skincare regimen that includes proper sun protection will help prolong your results.
